Conférence de la Professeure Alison Thompson (Dalhousie)

Titre : ''Synthetic Adventures With Pyrroles''
Endroit : Pavillon J.-Armand Bombardier, salle 1035 à 11 h
Hôte : Shawn Collins

Cette conférence sera prononcée (en anglais) par la Professeure Alison Thompson du Département de chimie de l'Université Dalhousie.

Résumé: The heterocyclic pyrrole skeleton is a component of Nature’s energy machinery, courtesy of tetrapyrroles such as chlorophyl and heme.   The Thompson research group at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, develops methodology for the synthetic manipulation of mono-, di-, tri- and tetra-pyrroles, with goals ranging from new protection strategies to improved methods to enable coupling of these electron rich units.  The properties of the resultant polypyrroles enable desired optical, photochemical, physical and medicinal applications.  The seminar will focus on improved synthetic routes to BODIPYs, a genre of fluorescent boron-complexed di-pyrroles, as well as attempts to use medicinal chemistry approaches to prepare and evaluate tri-pyrrolic analogues of prodigiosin natural products with anti-cancer properties.
